Boots Series

A day in their boots…

Welcome y’all to my first posting in the “A day in their boots” series. Every week I will interview a new person & give you a glimpse of what life is like in their “boots”. An intelligent person once said, “You can’t understand someone until you’ve walked a mile in their shoes.”

Everyone meet Phuong. I coincidentally met Phuong & her family this week while a friend & I were walking down the street in Thao Dien when her son asked us if we wanted to try some ice cream. Naturally, my friend & I said yes & we started to chat with Phuong & her family. I’m so glad we happened to be walking past her shop on this day or I may have never met this wonderful, new friend of mine.

Phuong is from Vung Tau City in Vietnam & has been living in Ho Chi Minh for more than twenty years. She went to university here, got married, started a family & now her own business here in ThaoDien. Her shop is called the Homemade Creamery & is located at 26 Thao Dien in District 2 across from Dolphy Cafe. Phuong has always loved to bake & make homemade goodies for her friends but never thought about opening her own shop until recently. On April 8th, 2017, Phuong made her dreams into a reality & opened her very own shop selling homemade yogurt, ice cream & baked goods. She makes the yogurt & ice cream daily using only fresh & natural ingredients like coconut milk & passion fruit with no preservatives! You must try the Passion Fruit Yogurt, to say it’s delicious is an understatement! Phuong learned how to make these sweet treats from her family who have their own ice cream shops here in Vietnam. Phuong also mentioned that she likes to experiment with flavors & try new recipes.

If you’re in Thao Dien, I highly recommend you stop in & try some of Phuong’s treats at the Homemade Creamery. It’s a sweet treat to beat the Saigon heat! They are located at 26 Thao Dien in District 2.
